The Difference Between Nuclear and Renewable Resources

If you think that renewable resources are the next big thing, you’re dead wrong! The top three most popular renewable resources right now are: Solar power, Wind power, and Hydro power. We will start with Solar power because this is the most accessible, easiest, and the most abundant on earth. How do you get it to work for you? What are its benefits over others?

There are two main types of renewable resources; those we can develop ourselves and those that we need to develop artificially (fossil fuels). While the development process of each of these is different, there are some similarities. Both types of renewable resources take energy from a source that can be renewed, such as the sun, wind, or hydroelectricity. Developing solar energy and wind energy are relatively easy compared to developing fossil fuels.

Fossil fuels like coal and oil are finite in nature, meaning that once we run out of them we have to dig more to get more. With renewable resources, however, we replenish our resources whenever we use them, so we never run out of them, no matter how much we use them. For example, using coal and oil to generate electricity wouldn’t last forever because these fossil fuels are relatively short-lived.

So what are the advantages and disadvantages of renewable resources over non-renewable resources? The biggest advantage is obviously the fact that we can produce them right here on earth. With that said, though, it makes them a very difficult commodity to obtain. Solar panels and windmills cannot be built just about anywhere. Developing either one of these requires precise technology, and there is also the cost factor to consider. On the other hand, non-renewable resources like fossils and oil are readily available, and are used in abundance.

Another advantage and disadvantage of renewable energy is the reliance on foreign sources. We need to constantly import power from foreign countries in order to store our own energy, meaning that we are taking a big chance with our economy. Many foreign countries also have an issue with their oil supplies, which can lead to shortages. In addition, many people worry that their governments won’t be able to continue paying the price for such energy, which could lead to more serious political problems.

While there are some disadvantages and major disadvantages to using renewable resources, these can be offset by the extreme benefits that we get from these methods. Solar power is the best way to go for a renewable energy project because it is extremely reliable, powerful, and environmentally friendly. Windmills are a great way to generate power, even on a small scale, and are a very good investment as well. All of these options should be considered when trying to make the decision between nuclear and renewable energy.
